D&D gift ideas for players and dungeon masters
Updated October 27, 2026

Buying for someone who plays Dungeons & Dragons can feel tricky if you don't play yourself. The good news is that most players love the same handful of things, and a few of them are easy to get right without knowing the rules.
A dice set of their own
Dice are the classic D&D gift. Players use them every session, and most people end up with a collection because each set feels a little different in the hand. A standard set has seven dice (d4, d6, d8, d10, percentile d10, d12 and d20), which covers almost every tabletop RPG.
If you want the set to feel personal, match it to their character. A druid player might like green, a warlock something dark, a cleric something gold. Our class finder suggests a color for each class, and the guide to dice for every D&D class explains the thinking.
Presentation matters for a gift. A set that arrives in a tin or a box is ready to wrap, while loose dice in a bag are better as a stocking filler.
A dice tray or rolling mat
A tray keeps dice from flying off the table and protects both the dice and the furniture. Felt or leather trays that fold flat are popular because they travel well. This is a great pairing with resin dice, which can chip if they're rolled onto hard surfaces.
A case or tin for carrying dice
Players who bring their dice to a friend's house or a game store will use a sturdy case every week. Padded cases protect sharp edges, which is worth thinking about if you're also giving resin dice.
Books and adventures
If they run games, a new adventure module or setting book gives the whole group something to enjoy. If you're unsure which books they already own, ask a friend from their group. Gift cards for a local game store are a safe fallback.
Miniatures and painting supplies
Many players enjoy painting a miniature of their character. A single unpainted figure plus a small starter set of paints is a thoughtful gift for someone who likes making things by hand.
A quick budget guide
- Under $15: a single striking d20, a small dice bag, a notebook for session notes.
- $15 to $50: a full dice set in a tin, a folding dice tray, a padded case.
- $50 and up: an adventure book, a set of matching dice for the whole party, a quality rolling mat.
